David Gauntlett - "the Lego man" - a theorist you MUST quote in your essays

The great thing about Media Studies is that some of the theorists you need to know about are still alive! Gauntlett's key area of research is, as he says, 'making is connecting'. He coined the phrase Web 2.0 in 2007, which refers to the way that people not only 'consume' the media now, but also 'produce' it (e.g. by commenting on Twitter on live TV or radio broadcasts, posting their own videos on YouTube).

Key quotations to use from Gauntlett;
'Making is connecting.'

'Online digital media enables everyday people to create and share material, and to be inspired by that made by others.' (From Gauntlett's new book, 'Making Media Studies', 2014)

'"Production", "audiences" and "texts" has all fallen apart... People still make stuff, and people still look at stuff, but often they are the same people doing both.' (From Gauntlett's new book, 'Making Media Studies', 2014)
